Dracaena fragrans 'Warneckii'

Dracaena fragrans 'Warneckii' is a classic striped cane Dracaena with arching sword-shaped leaves in grey-green, green and white. The pale edging and fine striping give the foliage a crisp linear pattern as it develops around woody stems.

With age, the plant forms visible canes carrying leafy heads near the active tips. Lower leaves gradually age away, leaving ringed stems that give mature plants their familiar upright Dracaena shape.

Grey-green leaves with pale margins

  • Foliage: Arching sword-shaped leaves with grey-green centres, green striping and narrow pale margins.
  • Stem habit: Evergreen cane growth with foliage clustered near the top of each stem.
  • Mature shape: Develops visible woody stems as lower leaves naturally shed over time.
  • Foliage variation: Pale margins and grey-green striping give each blade a clear linear pattern.

A long-grown striped Dracaena

'Warneckii' belongs to the striped Dracaena fragrans cane plants, with woody stems and leaf heads gathered near active tips. The species grows as a shrub or small tree in tropical Africa, while indoor plants develop as potted canes with visible ringed stems over time.

The plant’s mature form comes from its woody stems. New leaves emerge from the active tips, while older leaves leave visible rings on the cane. Mature stems may branch after pruning or age, producing several striped leaf heads from one plant.

Care for pale-edged cane foliage

  • Light: Grow in bright filtered light or clear moderate light. Pale margins stay cleaner when protected from intense direct sun.
  • Watering: Let the upper half or a little more of the mix dry before watering deeply and draining the pot.
  • Drainage: Use a pot with drainage holes and a mix that combines moisture retention with coarse aeration.
  • Warmth: Keep the plant above 18 °C where possible, with protection from cold draughts and chilled wet substrate.
  • Humidity: Normal room humidity is usually sufficient, though very dry heat can contribute to tip burn.
  • Feeding: Feed modestly during active growth and reduce fertiliser when winter light slows new leaves.
  • Repotting: Repot once roots have filled the container or the cane needs a heavier, more stable base.
  • Pruning: Shorten tall stems in spring or summer to encourage new shoots from lower nodes.

Stress patterns on pale-edged leaves

  • Dry brown tips: Check mineral build-up, low humidity, dry heat and irregular watering before adjusting the full routine.
  • Yellow lower leaves: Gradual old-leaf loss is normal; quick yellowing suggests wet roots, cold soil or weak light.
  • Tan bleached patches: Move the plant back from direct sun if pale sections turn papery.
  • Weak new growth: Improve filtered light and check that the root ball is not sitting in compacted, airless mix.
  • Hidden insects: Inspect cane joints and leaf bases for scale and mealybugs during cleaning.

Safety around chewing pets

Dracaena fragrans 'Warneckii' can irritate cats and dogs if eaten. Keep the striped leaves away from pets that nibble houseplants, and remove shed leaves from the pot surface.

Botanical name and etymology

The cultivar appears under both spellings, 'Warneckii' and 'Warneckei'. The genus name Dracaena comes from Greek drakaina, meaning female dragon. The species epithet fragrans means fragrant and refers to the scented flowers of Dracaena fragrans, which are rarely produced on indoor plants.

Dracaena fragrans 'Warneckii' has pale-edged leaves, visible canes and a vertical striped form.

Not that great
Color: Silver
Not bad for the price but it leaves a lot of pulp behind and I don’t like that it could be better but again decent for the price easy to use you just have to strain the juice a lot to get all the pulp out and once you do it’s like 60% pulp 40% juice when you go in the back to look at or throw out the juiced fruit you can feel how much juice is still in it

Easy to use, fairly easy to clean if you don’t mind all the parts. I feel that the noise level was normal for a juicer. The juice pitcher doesn’t hold much, but if you are just juicing for 2 people it’s fine. I did have an issue with mine and had to order a replacement, but overall it was still a great buy. I’m new to juicing so I didn’t take the core out of a plum and ended up cracking my fruit/veggie pusher, but other than that I love it. I also like the fact that it comes with a juice recipe booklet to try different juices.

Well worth the inexpensive price.

Easy to make delicious ice cream. Pros-ice cream is churned and ready to eat in 20 minutes. Easy to clean. Just a quick hand wash of bowl, lid and paddle. Fantastic taste. Much better than store bought with nothing but what you put in it. Cons-it can churn 3/4 cup at a time. So if your like me you want more there isn't any. I knew this and choose the small version on purpose so I couldn't eat more. A little noisy but not bad. The video makes it seem louder than it is. You do have to plan ahead. Make your ice cream base and chill it. Also the mug has to freeze atleast 24 hrs. I didn't find this to be a issue. I store the mugs in the freezer. If I plan to have ice cream for dessert, I make my base in the morning and refrigerate it. Than I churn the ice cream while I'm making dinner. 20 minutes later it's done. I freeze it while we eat and it's ready for after dinner. So it's not as easy as just going to your freezer and taking out a pint of ice cream and eating it. You do have to plan ahead. It's worth the extra effort to have fresh ice cream you made yourself. It's a great beginner ice cream maker. Oh and don't use a metal spoon, always use a rubber spatula or you will scratch your mug like i did.

Works great! Easy to use & clean
Color: Aqua, Size: 2 Bowls
I love this ice cream maker. It not only works great it's the perfect size and easy to use and clean. I was hesitant to try it because of the negative reviews but I'm glad I didn't listen to those people and just gave it a try. I put very little effort into using it and it turned out great every time. Not sure why some people had problems with it or if it was just user error or inability to follow directions. But i found it super easy to use and very versatile. I put the mug/bowl in the freezer for 2 days first to make sure it was sufficiently cold. The first thing i made was simple vanilla ice cream using the recipe in the book (although i didn't even measure exact amounts, i just guessed and eyed it). Poured the milk/cream/sugar combo in and let it go for about 25 minutes. Poured in some chocolate syrup in at the end and had myself some yummy perfect chocolate ice cream. It was on the softer side which is how i prefer ice cream so it was perfect for me. Also i noticed if you eat out of the frozen bowl it stays cold longer and if you push the ice cream around to the sides as you're eating it, it continues to freeze and harden. Transferring it to a different container will only make it melt faster. The second thing i made was a fruit sorbet sort of thing. I did this last minute with no plan and it turned out great. It was super hot and i was making a fruit smoothie, then decided to pour my smoothie into the ice cream maker to see what would happen. It was literally just bereies, juice and a little milk. After 25 minutes this turned into a fruity iced treat that was super delicious and perfect on a 90 degree day. The next thing i tried was putting in yogurt mixed with milk and juice and this turned out as a creamy mix between ice cream and iced slushy. I'm amazed at all the different creations you can make with this thing and how simple it is to use. Also clean up is quick and easy which i like. Having 2 bowls seems like the best idea, especially for a single person, as you always have one in the freezer ready to use. This makes the perfect amount for one person but it can make enough for 2 even in one bowl. This is a great product especially for the price. Glad i didn't get one of those expensive ice cream makers that probably doesn't even work as well. If you have been wanting to make your own ice cream or iced/cold treats/concoctions, then give this a try. Don't listen to the negative reviews because this thing is awesome and works great! So glad I finally got one.
